Choosing An Underfloor Heating System

The winter time is an important time for heating your home, and there are different methods to ensure that your home is heated efficiently and effectively. The most common methods of heating the home involve either radiators or boilers, but there is a more economical way of heating a home and it involves an underfloor heating system.

An underfloor heating system is a form of heating that works underneath your flooring. An underfloor heating system takes heat from a heating fluid that is circulated under your flooring, and this is thought to be more efficient and reliable than forced air heating.

You don’t even notice it because underfloor heating doesn’t blow hot air around your room. There is no ductwork or fans blowing hot air around your home. This is because underfloor heating is connected to pipes that are laid under the floor.

There are two main types of underfloor heating, and these are Hot Water and electric heating systems. In the hot water system, a boiler is involved and it’s these that work under the floor. It’s these that that allow you to have a warm floor, without it being hot and sticky.

The electric heating systems work by heating cables that run underneath the flooring of your home. These are the easiest of the two to install and you don’t need to install anything to run the cables. This is great for those who are remodelling their homes and don’t have the time to install underfloor heating.

In terms of operating costs, electric underfloor heating is thought to be more economical than other types, but the operating costs are thought to be slightly higher than those that are run through a boiler. You can use a thermostat to control the temperature of your home, but these are not the most reliable of devices as they are not fully programmed to control the temperature.

In conclusion, there are many different types of underfloor heating system and their operating costs are varied. Many choose the radiator type as they are the most cost effective. However, if you are remodelling your home or are remodelling because you’re tired of the cold feeling floors, then an electric underfloor heating system might be for you.
